Although set on 2 tiny acres, this petite resort packs a lot of punch in its cliff-side location, drawing the Hollywood set as well as travelers looking for boutique-style pampering. Thatch-roof cottages are individually designed with vivid colors and hand-carved furniture, every one offering spectacular sunset views. The cottages are built above the natural sea caves that line the cliffs, one of which is used for private romantic dinners. TVs are available, but only if you ask. Pros: Stylish and unique accommodations, personal service, quiet atmosphere. Cons: Limited on-site dining options, may be too quiet for some travelers, no beach (on cliffs).

In a wooded canyon with lush gardens and a swan-filled lake, the Hotel Bel-Air's fairy-tale luxury and seclusion have made it a favorite of discreet celebs and royalty for decades. Bungalow-style rooms feel like fine homes, with country-French, expensively upholstered furniture in silk or chenille; many have hardwood floors. Several rooms have wood-burning fireplaces (the bell captain will build a fire for you). Eight suites have private outdoor hot tubs. Complimentary tea service greets you upon arrival; enjoy it on the terrace warmed by heated tiles. A pianist plays nightly in the bar. The hotel's excellent restaurant spills into the garden and a heated, vine-draped terrace.

Fodor's Review:
In the age of iPod mania, this was Prague's first concept hotel and what a concept it was—a music-themed hotel. Each elegant room is dedicated to a musical genre and equipped with CD/DVD players and speakers. From the outside, you'd never guess that überhipness and gorgeous design lurk within, but few will be disappointed staying here. The rooftop terrace, with its panoramic view of Prague, is simply the best.
